I Have A 13.2 Paso Fino who loves to run, so I decided to do some contesting with him. In his first run he ran 19.11. I know he can do better, he just has a problem with not cutting the barrel tight enough. How can I help him around it so he can cut seconds off the clock???!!

  1. he will never be as fast becase he would have to break gait but he can do a few things. Cut the barrel tighter by doing suppling exercises, practice this at home, bend him turn him, etc. until he is completly and consistantly loose. Next straight lines to the next barrel. Straight line home. Take a forward set out of the saddle and settle back down for the turn. Give him his head on the way home and above all get a good start and you should be able to control his hunches good.

  2. I had a mare that used to run consistant 17.5 to 18 and I used to practice with poles instead of barrels. It worked for me???

  3. Well one 13.2 is a pony and he is gaited.. I am only telling you this because he really can not do it ,, He is not made for that

You will have to live with those times or get another horse,
