Question:

How Can I Get CHEAP Wedding Invitations!!??

I am getting married in December. I've recently realized that I am not going to be able to even afford the essentials of a decent wedding. Thats okay I guess, but, I want to make it as good as possible.

Invitations. They are INSANELY expensive. So, my question: Is there anyone out there who will give me a break? Anyone who can do them for me, for next-to-nothing? I only need 40-50.

If not, can anyone tell me how to do them myself, to look professional? Cheaply, of course!

  1. Make your own, get some cardstock..everyone loved mine that I had two people ask me to make theirs.

    here's ours

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/26270968@N0...

the red ones...that was before we put our monogram on the front. we spent roughly 100 bucks on 80 of them.

anns bridal bargains is great too...we made ours because we wanted a handmade look and we were quoted 325 dollars for a set of 50

  2. I am old school and did my own with a neat set of stationery and caligraphy pens. Take your time and they will look great. With the price of postage these days, you really only need to send invites to the people that are invited and/or really important to you and your soon to be. Don't forget one for your scrapbook.

  3. Design them yourself and take them to the printers. You can make them easily in word, publisher or photoshop. Depending on what paper you choose it can be as cheap as .10c per invite (A4 on regular copy paper)! For thick card it is usually about .30c for DL size which means cheaper postage as well.

You can get heaps of free fonts on the internet so your invitiations look professional. Then all you need is to find a design, monogram or image and you have beautiful invitiations!

  4. I bought some plain gatefold invitations with textured paper inserts off the internet and bought some ribbon I wrapped around the paper and tied in a bow.  And I got my brother to do the design it for me and printed it off on my printer....Cheap and cheerful.  Cost me less than £50 for 200 invitations and no one believed they were hand made.

  5. You could do them even cheaper than all these other people are saying by using a fountain pen with a calligraphy tip and writing the invitations out in script yourself on paper you like. Then you fold it over and seal it with a wax seal as if it were a royal proclamation or something. You can make it look any way you want and it will look so unique that no one will "forget" it in a drawer.

  6. I made 100 wedding invitations for $40 and they are so pretty!  I bought handmade paper with flowers and leaves pressed into it in 5x7.  Then I bought vellum in 4x6 and printed the wedding information on the vellum.  I tied the vellum to the handmade paper with wraphia.  I bought cream envelopes and skipped RSVP cards.

  7. I bought do-it-yourself kits at the craft store.  There are templates and guides to make sure that when you really start printing them that they are lined up properly.

For 200 invites, I spent $100.  I will be running them through my laser jet printer so even if I allocate 1/2 the cost of a toner cartridge (which is way more than this will take), the total cost would be $125.  Thats just above 60-cents each.

  8. I think with a little creativity and some good internet searching, you'll be able to fashion yourself some really beautiful invitations at a low price.

Just type in google "homemade wedding invitations" and I'm sure you'll find something you love.

Or you might look at www.etsy.com for some good card making ideas.

Best of luck!  I'm sure you'll find something you love.  And congratulations!

  9. We are getting married in March 2009 & we are making both our own programs & invites.  They are so expensive & that is something we are definitely looking to save money on.

    Try this website:

    http://www.thepapermillstore.com

They have affordable cardstock in large quantities (good so you can do a few sample sheets). They even have helpful info on how to do the projects.  Oh! Also, for the response cards, instead of doing cards with envelopes & a stamp, do postcards...cheaper postage & saves on small envelopes.  Don't use inside/liner envelopes...waste of $$.  Hope this helps.

  10. I bought a set of 50 invitations at the arts and crafts store Michaels, and they were only about $30 or so for everything.  I saw Jo-Ann Fabrics, etc. had them as well.  You can print them out on your computer using MS Word.  It takes a little bit of effort, but they have instructions on the package which explains how to do it.  I would also recommend cutting sheets off paper to the size you want and trying a few practice runs before you start printing up the actual invitations.

  11. You can either GOOGLE things like "do it yourself wedding invitations" or hit up barnes and nobles. There are tons of books and info that focus on inexpensive and do it yourself weddings... Or go to a craft store and look around, there are always good ideas there as well....

  12. im going to go ahead and answer this even though you have a trillion and one answers already! i did my own, my wedding budget is retarded cheap too... so i did my own invites. i bought colored cardstock (aqua) and printed my own invites on microsoft word. they have some really pretty font & you can find all kinds of wordings through google. i went to hobby lobby & got a really neat wooden stamp & stamps two opposiate corners of my invite to give it a moderny feel. i got everything at hobby lobby by using there coupon in their weekly add (about once a month they have a 40% any single item coupon) i made mine for less than $25! not including postage. good luck!

p.s. i figured out why you are getting so many answers. yahoo answer froze up & the last question was posted 16hours ago. so your question looks like one of the most recent. you may end up with over 100. lol.

  13. well that depends what is next to nothing??  if you can deal with no color (my color cartridge is out)  i could probably do them for you.  send me a detailed desciption of what you want names dates all the info and where they need to be sent to.  you can also go to the dollar store or walmart and buy what you need and fill them in  you can find me on myspace under bertsbabe918

  14. The ladies here on Y!A's told me to get invitations at Michaels (they have kits) and that's exactly what I did and it is pretty inexpensive.  My step-son-to-be experimented with some fonts and found several that will work well.  We have 30 people to invite (20 invitations),  and our local Michael's had a great selection.  I'm told Hobby Lobby may as well, and some of the Joann's stores have been ungraded to include wedding stationary.

If you want any more frugal (like $10) and you are a scrapbooker, you can also print your invitations on cardstock and use special cutter to cut interesting edges.  Buy envelopes.

  15. My dear Triple X.  If you are getting married, you need to erase the word "cheap" from the words you use to describe your wedding.  You do not do anything "cheap".  Frugal, yes, cost-savings, yes, inexpensive, yes.  But cheap is for sl*ts and bad girls.  Now, to answer your question.  Just go on line and find a site where you can download an invitation.  You can paste in your own photos or not.  You can choose your font, select your wording, download it and print it, and then take it to a printing machine that copies colors, and put it in an envelope.  You can do it very simply and elegantly, but never cheaply.

  16. Look in the yellow pages and contact a printing company. If you only need 50 and don't mind if they're not embossed or engraved, just a simple who what when where, any printing company could do it for you pretty cheap. Probably under $100 depending on where you live. Just call around and see who has the cheapest prices

  17. Dollar Tree or Walmart is the cheapest way to go.I'm getting mine at Walmart that you just need to fill out.Like they have some that say "Your invited to..............On...............At........ know alot of people think that is cheap to write in your invitations by hand, but I think they are just as nice.Go ahead people, thumbs me down,I don't care.I'm not fixing to to waste 100 dollars on invites.Ofcourse,I'm gonna decorate them with ribbons and rhinestones. If your creative, you can come up with some great looking invites.

  18. This might sound cheap, but it turned out beautiful (and I got many positive comments on them).  I got the invites from WalMart (50 in a box) and I printed them myself.  To add some color (because I printed them in black & white on a laser printer) I went to AC Moore and got the Jolee's embellishment flower and added 1 flower to each invite.  It really made it pretty and I ended up getting 3 different colors and making each invite a bit different than the other.

Even on a budget, you can make your wedding awesome.  Trust me, I did.  Focus on the things that matter the most to you can cut back on the things that aren't so important.  For instance, you don't have to have favors.  Most people either leave them or don't use them anyhow, so why waste your moeny?  Also, depending on how much of this you're doing on your own, you can make some really pretty, inexpensive centerpieces on your own (AC Moore often has their floating bowls on sale for like $2.99 - fill with water and some colored stones and float some candles).  ANd in winter, you could probably have some cool themes - get snowflake shaped floating candles.

    Congrats and good luck!

PS - you might see if you buy the invites at Staples or Kinkos if they'll print them for you!  I didn't even think of that, but it's very possible they will.

  19. If you have a printer and chances are you can do them your self.  when I got married my second time around it was just e mail and I had a lovely second wedding, although it was small.  If you are a young bride on your first marriage then go to any wal-mart store because they have lovely cards to announce your big day!  Congratulations!!

  20. You should try http://www.etsy.com

It's a website sort of like ebay, but where everything that's sold has to be a handmade product. Besides people listing what they want to sell, under the Alchemy tab, you can make a description of what you want someone to make for you, and then people bid on it. Then you choose someone from those bids, and give a really detailed idea to them. It's a really great site and a really good idea, too. There are several bride to be's using only etsy as a way to get all of the things that they need for their wedding, including the dress!

  21. I am getting mine done by someone from ebay. I'm paying a hundred dollars and that includes 100 invitations, 100 envelopes, 100 reception cards, 100 reply cards, and 100 thank you cards and envelopes. She is great to work with, and I'm sure she would give you a deal for the package and number you wanted if you didn't want to do them on your own.

  22. Blank cards at Wal-mart, very inexpensive. Use a pretty font and print out on your home computer/printer. Very easy, looks professional, and super cheap! You can find the wedding invites back in the craft department with the other wedding items. Congrats and good luck!

  23. Make your own.  There are alot of different computer programs that you can make your own & all you need is paper and a computer. Plus it has an added personal touch that you really don't find in most professionally done invites.  You can go to walmart & the invites from there & than go online & fill out all of the information....it's really easy!

  24. I just went to Michael's (the craft store), and they are now carrying matching invitation sets, including thank you cards and something else (I didn't look too closely because I don't need them now - I made my own, much like the person above). A box was about $25-$30, and they looked really nice. I believe some of them may also have had matching place settings as well, but I'm not too sure on that.

Anyway, they are definitely worth checking out - there were several kinds, and you really can't tell them from the super over-priced invitations.

  25. You can go to a print shop, example: UPS store, and they do wedding invitations very cheaply (or very expensive, they work within your budget). I am getting married in December also and we're getting our invitations done at the UPS store print shop, and because we're not going to use expensive paper, going to have them in black and white, and we're choosing the picture that is on the invitaiton and the wording, and for 60 invitations with RSVP postcards and all the envelopes will be done for under $100. They will be professionally done and look nice!! Hope that helps, Good Luck and Congrats!!!

  26. You can get 50 invitations here

    http://www.invitationpackages.com/Weddin...

for about $88.00 which include your invitations and envelopes, response card and envelopes, favor tags, place cards and menus. They will also print your return address on the envelopes! That seems pretty cheap to me, plus I'm sure if you contact them, they may be able to work out a deal with you, if you don't need all the accessories that come with the package.

They come in tons of different colors and it says they will customize if you don't see a color you like.

    Congrats and good luck.

  27. We bought ours at Wal-Mart and printed them ourself. They looked very professional. We had an outdoor wedding in my mother-in-law's back yard. Obviously, you cant do that in December. But you dont have to spend a lot of money on a wedding. People wont even realize it. You just gotta know where to shop. We got some things from Oriental Trading Co. They have a great wedding catalog.

  28. There are several websites that have free templates for your invites. All you need to buy is the paper you want to use .This one below is a good one -if you don't have adobe file reader the download is on this site as well and is free. It will help you load the template. Select the design you want and then it it tells you how to print and finish the invite with wording .Good Luck

  29. There is someone who can give you a break and do them for you for next-to-nothing...you!  I wouldn't except someone else to put in that much time and energy to do your invitations for you - they would deserve to be compensated for their time, and you can't afford that.  Good news - Target and Michaels now have invitations that are super affordable ($25 for 50 invitations, envelopes, response cards, and response envelopes).  That's awesome!  You basically print them on your computer.  They come with "test" sheets that you photocopy (make tons of copies of those) so you can adjust your wording, etc, until it's just right...and then start printing on the real paper.  There are tons of them that are really cute.  Otherwise, there aren't any really cheap options... other "do-it-yourself" types will make their own using a gocco machine, but the supplies will still run you about $600 total, and you can of course get them printed at Hallmark for the same price.  But if you want them on the cheap, Target/Michaels is the way to go.  If you don't live near a Target, check out Target.com and search for "wedding invitations."  Best wishes!

  30. Sweetheart you might want to make them ourself. Hand engraved invites are beautiful, but so not work it. You could go to a craft store, and buy some nice card stock, and then have a custom made stamp, saying the date time and all that jazz.

    Good luck and congrats.

  31. They do have special kits and computer programs but a cheap way could be ot have you and your bridesmaids and family do them.

Print out what you need to be said on paper repetetively( use nice font) then cut out the sections and paste them with a glue stick into quality colored construction paper after you have folded them creatively to open up like a card or invitation (sort of like a card envelope shape). You can decorate the fronts with little things from a craft store too. You would have to find envelopes to fit them and mail them out and  print and send along r.s.v.p return post cards that are pre stamped.
