Question:

How Can I Get To Sleep Sooner Tonight?

well school starts tomorrow first day at jr.high! and i have to get up at 6 am and i usually got to bed at 11:30 or so

so what can i do so i can go to bed at around 10:00

so i wont be as sleepy tomorrow morning

  1. Contrary to what other posters are saying, exercising will not help you go to sleep faster. Here is an excerpt from a health website:

    "Don’t exercise for at least 3 hours before bed. Exercising increases blood flow and wakes you up. Getting in your daily workout just before bedtime will keep your heart rate elevated and make it difficult to calm down enough to sleep."

    What you should do instead are stretches, or a (slow) walk around your neighbourhood. Sleepy Time Tea is also a good idea - you can also use chamomile tea which can be easier to find.

    Another important thing to do when you're getting ready for bed is to decrease the amount of lighting slowly - don't watch TV/go on the computer for an hour before you go to sleep, and have only a small bedside lamp on in the few minutes when you're getting ready for bed.

    If you can't fall asleep, try listening to some quiet music (nature sounds or something like that). Make sure your room is a comfortable temperature and it's dark and quiet.

    When you wake up in the morning, having a quick shower will help to wake you up, as well as having a healthy breakfast. If you're really tired, then would be the time to exercise a little bit - it will not wear you out, it will wake you up and get you ready for the day.

    don't do anything in bed (don't talk on the phone, eat, read, watch tv)..

    leave the bed just for sleeping...

  4. Try to lie down earlier.  Take a nice shower and get into bed by 9:00.  You will most likely fall asleep by 10:00

  5. You should go to the grocery store and pick up some Sleepy Time Tea. It's very soothing and it gets me to sleep every time. It will also help you throughout the rest of the week to get back on your sleeping schedule.

    PS: In health class, we learned that drinking a cup of warm milk before you go to bed helps. Warm milk releases a chemical in your body that make you feel calm and a little sleepy (that's why you always warm a baby's milk)

  6. Wear yourself out before 10. Clean up your room, clean up the house, dust, mop, make your bed, exercise, ride your skateboard, take a jog. By the time you're ready for bed, you'll be READY FOR BED! LOL!
