I have had good luck with google adwords.  SEO works well, too, if you have the time and knowledge for it.  Most people don't, and hiring someone to do it for you can cost thousands.

If you are not indexed in the major search engines (google, yahoo, aol) yet, you can go directly to their site and submit your website.  I tend to keep away from most of the smaller sites, simply because so many of them will either send you spam, ask for money, or ask for a reciprocal link.
