How Can I Make My Former Barn Cat Like Me?

So we got my cat when he was 6 weeks old from the barn where my horse is at. My dad never wanted him, but now the cat only sleeps on my dads side of the bed, follows him around, and will rub against him all the time. Sometimes my cat will be nice to my sister and me, but most of the time he ignores us. Is it because my dad is the one who mainly cleans his box and stuff? Or is it irony: He never wanted the cat but now the are best friends? How can i make my cat lik me more.

Pay some more attention to it, and help feed and care for it.

Cats are cats! The reason (I'm not kidding) he likes your dad so much because your dad didn't want a cat! Ever notice how cats seem to follow around people who are allergic to them? OH THE IRONY!

    Your cat might come around. Or he might not. They are very moody creatures.

find out something he REALLY likes and start giving as treats.

Just you not anyone else.

He may still just love your dad but he may come to accept you more.

be the one who feeds it.  play with dangly toys with it every day.  10-minutes is all it takes.  peacock feathers make great toys!    when you become the caregiver, it will notice you more.  

don't try to force it to be attentive to you by holding on if it wants to wander away.  you have to love a cat on its terms. but you'll get more out of the relationship when you put more into it.
