How Can I Make an Alarm That goes off When Someone opens the Gate?

I need to make an alarm type thing that whenever somebody opens the gate in the front lawn it will go off. It obviously has to be waterproof, heatproof, and coldproof. And DO NOT tell me to buy one! If I had that kind of money I would buy one, and you guys/gals wouldn't have to read this.

If you want to go really cheap then just hang up some empty glass bottles on a string, and have them hit together when they open the gate, or you could use bells, or you could simply get a dog that likes to bark!

Get a big dog or little one that barks alot

well get an alarm that has some sort of other small machine with it and connect the small one on the gate.u put the big alarm in ur house and wen the gate opens u have some sort of activation/connection. idk just get an alarm that will activate something else or connect to something.

Wow, they aren't that expensive.  I have one on my gate I bought at Big Lots for $7.99 and I think it will cost you more to make one.  The only thing is that it is battery operated, but it indicates when the battery is low and you have to change it about every 6-8 months.
