  1. Duplicate the chnl

    then duplicate the track,

    ctrl+c

    ctrl+v to duplicated track (so you can keep the settings)

    If you want to record to the master chnl then solo the tracks (with their FX chnls or SENDS "if" you have any enabled) you want to record.

    (this is all assuming you are using Cubase, Logic or Nuendo)

    There are also may free or low cost programs available for more specialized needs through a google search.

    Another option (assuming your sound card is full duplex, meaning it can record and play at the same time) would be to connect a patch cord (a short cord, usually with a male stereo 1/8" plug on each end) between the "line out" (or "headphone") jack and the "line in" (or "microphone") jack. You can then open recording software such as "sound recorder", click record, and play the file you are trying to save.
