Question:

How Can I Split a Telephone Line That's Connected Through an Ethernet Jack?

I wanted to split a telephone line so that I may use 2 phones on the same line. But the problem is, the phone connects to an ethernet jack. I tried using an ethernet splitter, but I'm only able to access the line on one phone (it didn't matter if it was first or second split, but which ever was plugged in to either of the jacks first, only that one would work). Any suggestions? Much Thanks!

  1. if your phone uses an RJ45 connection (I will use this in place of ethernet, because with your info I am not sure it is an ethernet jack) then it may be connected to a phone system, or VoIP, either way you are not going to be able to split the signal at the jack.

if it is a phone system, each jack is wired to its own extension on the phone system.

if it is VoIP you will need to install a router, hub, or switch to split the line at the jack.

  2. try the spliter at the phone jack and not at the Ethernet.
