How Can I Tell If My Betta Is A Boy Or A Girl?

Question

I just got a new Betta (shark-bait), and shark-bait has a severe case of FinRot (yes I'm treating it!!!). How can I tell if shark-bait is boy or girl?

P.S. : he is gold with a black head and little specks of black

Does he have a long flowing tail? Even with fin rot you should be able to tell.

Well first if it has long fins it is a male but if it has shorter fins it is a female!

The females are less vibrant color, their fins are substantially smaller, and they are smaller overall than the males.

Males have beautiful long tail and top fins. Females have very short fins. The reason the males are more attractive is thier beauty attracts the female for mating. You can only put a female in the same tank w/ a mail, any other fish with long fins he will attacked.

If the fins are (or were) long and elaborate, with long ventral fins and a full "ruff" when it flares, its a boy. You can get short-tailed boys though, in the wild the two sexes look near identical (it's humans who bred them to have long-fins, not so they can attract a mate as someone else said).

All females are short tailed with a rounded anal fin, short ventral fins, a shorter ruff when they flare and a small white spot on the underside of their belly called an oviposter. Girls have now been bred to be just as vibrantly coloured as the boys though so don't just rely on colour!

Well usually the duller colored ones are females whilst the brighter more flashy ones are males, is the gold bright or rich ? If so he is a male.

wont help any seeing i dont have a betta but my female fish they say should be little on the heavy side.plumper
