I have a netgear Router, WGR614 to be exact. my computer can detect it but it just says "Validating Identity"

I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what I should do or put a link, just please do not say to configure it and put something like this 192.168.0.1 because that wont work, I use routerlogin.com to do that but I do not know what to do.

  1. thats actually a VERY good router you may have to run the CD but make sure the router is connected to the modem

  2. I have a wireless router and it sounds like you need to register the device. If youre just starting internet service, use the ethernet cable to get a connection, register your specific router using the serial # on the device and once its registered, you should be able to disconnect the ethernet cable and just use it wireless. Hope this helps.

  3. If you are not willing to login to the router, then have someone you know do it for you.

  4. You don't.  The Ethernet cable is a necessary item.  Your router should have come with one.  You also need some form of high speed Internet,  dial up isn't enough.  If you have high speed Internet and don't have an Ethernet cable you'll need to get one.

Your router must be connected to a computer directly.  If you have a desktop or even an old laptop you can leave it connected to that.  Then you connect to the laptop you want to have wireless with using an extra Ethernet cable.  Once it is connected and designates an ip address you can disconnect the cable from the laptop.  But the router must remain connected to another computer at all times or it won't work.

  5. it may be a hardware problem. try reinsalling your software.

second thing is click start>run>cmd>press enter>type ipconfig in the black box that comes up> find the default gateway IP address and type that in your internet browser. this will allow you to configure your router.

  6. it sounds like you have some kind of security enabled on it.  if so, when you set up the wireless connection on ur laptop, you need to put all those parameters in.  if you needed more help IM me on yahoo (o_rock).
