  1. wow, i am so happy that i high school student actually cares about a cause like this! you could but a recycling box in every classroom. and trust me that helps alot.

samantha you r going to have a really bright future if you keep things like this up!!!

  2. put posters on  your school notice board showing benefits of recycling.deliver speeches and organize debates on the topic "recycling".

  3. First, what you're trying to do is a wonderful thing and I am impressed! Great idea!

I know that one of the elementary schools in my area has a recycling program. A neighbor child that attends that school said each classroom there is a cardboard box labeled "Recycle" and every piece of scrap paper, extra worksheets, aluminum cans, and more goes into that. The recycle boxes are delivered by the children to a white dumpster for recycling things. It is all part of a program that is dedicated to getting people to recycle more. You could talk to your principal about promoting a recycling program and search up a school recycling program on google to use as examples. Research information that tells how much ONE school wastes things that can be recycled. If you know how to use it, create a Power Point presentation. It makes you look prepared and determined. Hope it helps- good luck and what you are doing is a great thing!

  4. You could offer a reward like day off school, or even a cash reward.

  5. One of the easiest ways to make recycling happen is to get a bin in every classroom.  So much paper goes to waste in classrooms, because the only place to put used paper is in the trash.  Just encouraging students to stick their old notes and things will go a long way.

  6. Samantha...I'm impressed...I had almost given up on some of the youth in this country!

A program is Indianapolis is that a recycler put a collection site at the school and the money from the haul is given directly to the school or club that manages this.  This could be a Student Council activity.

Inform the students what impact waste and recycling has...poster contests...essay contests...get teachers to use waste and recycling in daily classwork...math, science, English, etc.  Make it a unified effort...best of luck!

  7. wow well done for deciding to take action :)

you could mention how much waste is used that can be recycled and what will happen if they dont take action.

show them pictures of landfilled sites because they are getting full up and we wont have any left over to use.

give them examples of materials they could recycle such as some plastics. also say what the green bins will look like.

if they dont look interested get serious and say about how recycling is ruining our planet and they wouldn't like it if all our us was covered in rubbish .

i hope this helps and good luck ! :)

  8. Samantha,

I was once told during an environmental engineering class that eventually we would pay someone to haul our recyclable trash and then sort it.  I'm sure San Antonio has a recycling program.  Contact the City solid waste dept. and see what they can do to help coordinate your efforts.  They may provide containers to use for cans and paper.

Also do some proactive sort of activities such as setting up locations to bind paper for reuse (reuse is always better than recycling).  Have the staff evaluate what is done on handouts that could be posted on BB's.

Encourage car pooling and better yet bus use.  I see locally that many high schoolers drive and then middle school and elementary students are dropped by parents and buses run at less than half full.  Offering a free breakfast for bus riders may encourage riding the bus.  Get it to be status quo.  Reduce fuel use.  Have the school keep the school cooler in the winter and warmer during the fall and spring.  Even a degree or two would make a difference and save tax payers money.

Good luck and look to accomplish some goal that will continue after you go on to college.

  9. Congratulations well done! Well if it where me then I would make a display all about recycling and maybe ask if I could do an assembly on the project. Also a competition with prices will attract peoples attention. You could look towards student council (if you have one) to buy some paper recycling boxes for classrooms if you have enough money. There are lots of things you could do to promote recycling.
