How Can Manchester City Win The League
With the mega riches at their disposal, Manchester City, the wealthiest club in the world, has an actual chance of jostling for the English Premier League this season. Even though, people will say they might have a realistic chance of making the top four, critics will say that Manchester City have a long way to go before they can challenge the likes of London based Chelsea and bitter city rivals Manchester City.
This article looks at some of the ways in which Manchester City may not just become a top four contender but probably upset the apple cart by claiming the crown.
The league has firstly gotten tougher. Last season, the top 3 were in constant trouble against supposedly lower positioned opposition. In addition to this, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa, Everton and Manchester City themselves gave a tough ride to all. This meant more losses for the big four and Liverpool missing out on the coveted Champions League spot.
City might be able to use this tougher nature of the league to keep up with the leaders who will not find it easy to run away with the title. Being within striking distance will mean, reinforcements and a bit of inspiration in the winter transfer window can give them the momentum they need to snatch the title during the "squeaky" time.
Next, the fact that Manchester City has a huge squad will help. Even though current Premier League rules stipulate that only a 25 member team may be selected, City's wealth means that each of their team squad members will be high quality and able to slot in seamlessly whenever required. The depth of the squad will come in handy when the inevitable assault on Europa League, FA cup and the Carling Cup commences in addition to fighting for glory in the league.
It is also more than likely that the mercurial Mario Balotelli will make his move to the Eastlands sooner or later. It is only for a while that the lure of money can be resisted. Balotelli's signing will be a huge coup. It could also be a huge disaster given the temperament of the 19 year old. However, his skills, physical presence and quality will enable him to surely fulfil his promises at the Stadium of Manchester City. If his head is in place and his attitude tuned towards the field, there is every possibility that Balotelli can become a star like Thierry Henry or Cristiano Ronaldo. Under the tutelage of the man who gave him his debut, Roberto Mancini, it would be foolhardy to rule out such a possibility. With his personal progression, Balotelli could also lead his new club to glory.
David Silva is a huge player in himself. He has quality and can provide services that few others can in the English league. His passing and shooting abilities will give defenders a torrid time and if he is able to adapt to the rough and tough nature of the league quickly, this will mean even more service and goal scoring opportunities for Emmanuel Adebayor, Balotelli and of course, Carlos Tevez.
Yaya Toure is an expensive acquisition and is an upgrade over any other defensive midfielder that they have at the team. His battling qualities and his physical presence just in front of the defence means that City will definitely leak less goals the coming season than the one before.
Another year has gone by. The team has gotten more used to the burden of being so wealthy and the expectations that are to be fulfilled. Mancini has had more time to mould his team into what he has visualized, and bring in the players he wants. He also has a feel for how the league is and how battles should be fought at places in Blackburn and the Midlands. It must be remembered that Mancini is a master of winning leagues as he showed when managing Inter Milan.
Glory for City seems a question of 'when' and not 'if', as long as the benefactors keep active. And with all the above factors mentioned, it is very likely that league glory for the success starved fans of Manchester City might come way sooner than they expect.
