How Can PCB save itself from an imminent dsaster
"It was the best of times… It was the worst of times…" (quoted from the famous book written by Charles Dickens) This statement summarizes the current state of affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board to say the least. After going through all the upheavals during the current year and in the past, one could only pray that matters would not worsen in times to come for PCB. There have been a number of headline stories this year regarding our Cricket which have badly tarnished the reputation of PCB in particular and Pakistan Cricket in general. But for the sake of clarity and brevity we must remain confined to our topic i.e. how can PCB save itself from an imminent disaster.
It all started this summer when the Pakistan Cricket team was playing on English soil after a lapse of four years. Pakistan last played in England in the summer of 2006 when a fiasco between Inzamam and Australian umpire, Darrel Hair, captured the attention of the entire cricketing world. Bitter memories of that drama were refreshed this summer when after winning the second Test Match against England, the entire British Media had a field day against the Pakistan Cricket players. Allegedly three Pakistani Cricketers were found involved in match fixing. Terminologies like spot fixing surfaced for the first time and it looked as if for a moment the whole world was following this scandal keenly. Pakistan Cricket Board, since then, has been under immense pressure from the ICC which is the governing body for cricket affairs. PCB has been asked to investigate the whole matter but to this day no conclusive evidence has been found against the alleged players. The ICC anti corruption unit has put http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 team under close surveillance. Salman Butt, an able batsman and fielder, has been sacked and two prominent fast bowlers have been removed from the list of the final playing eleven. The whole episode has raised a number of questions about the integrity of our players and the system through which they are groomed. Our domestic cricket infrastructure is faulty and lacks the much needed guidance and support required for the upcoming players.
In order to streamline things and save PCB from imminent disaster following steps to be implemented:
First of all there should be a fair appointment of the chairman of PCB without any political influence.
All those players who have been found guilty of misconduct should be heavily fined and they should be kept away from international cricket for quite some time.
A culture involving talent oriented selection of players should be encouraged where a player is selected only on the basis of his cricketing talent rather than his social connections.
foreign qualified coach should be hired who can instill confidence in our players. Fielding, batting and bowling should be taught on scientific grounds.
Whenever the team goes abroad for a tour, only designated players and team officials should accompany them. It has been observed that a lot of unnecessary people usually accompany them on foreign tours thus making the whole tour a lot more expensive.
Captains should be made entirely on the basis of talent, leadership qualities and experience.
Players should be monitored closely, especially while on foreign tours, in order to avoid any match fixing scandals. And as already emphasized, anyone found guilty should be given exemplary punishment.
Team Manager and coach should be selected on basis of their experience and talent unlike the way it has been going on in our country.
I strongly believed that if the above mentioned steps are carefully implemented they will bear positive results for Pakistan Cricket in times to come.
