By realizing that you know nothing, you will become the smartest person ever.

Try to imagine yourself knowing nothing at all.  It is far harder than it sounds, isn't it?  I will help you.

Imagine you are the Earth, and the Earth is a piece of sand on a beach.  You cannot move.  And you can only see and know what is immediately around you.  Then think about how large that beach is, how many other pieces of sand there are.

Makes you feel d**n near insignificant doesn't it?  Relative to knowing nothing at all.

Seriously, the best way to increase overall intelligence is to be a critical thinker who reads avidly.

Reading avidly (especially good, solid books, like the works of Plato, Homer, Sun Tzu, and other great thinkers) gives you an incredible number of ideas to think about. Critical thinking lets you cut the c**p and only focus on what makes good sense.

Start with Logick by Isaac Watts. If you can make it through that handbook and take the time to understand what you've read, you'll be a fair sight smarter than most anyone else already, and have your critical thinking down pat.

Intelligence or "smartness" is relative. You will never beat everyone in every way, besides the (highly unlikely) probability, I believe its physically impossible. Just think about it.

No offense, but I doubt someone who asks this sort of question is ever going to be considered a genius.

I can not, because I genuinely believe that being the smartest is not the wisest thing to do in life. My wisdom directs me towards happiness rather than smartness, and the two are not congruent!!
