How Can You Keep an ice cube Cold?

We are learning about ancient Greece, & the greeks made an ice device to keep ice cubes cold..ive googled this and nothing was very useful ..can anyone help me and my team?

Please we cannot freeze it, that would be cheating. Thank You!!!

Back in the OLD days they used to cut ice out of ponds& then lay layers of sawdust between& aroud it to insulate it & pack it in tighr buildings. The Amish do it now using old worn out freezers.
