i got my 4 wisdom teeth pulled on friday the 18th and i have been really scared of getting dry sockets! i havn't eaten solid foods yet! last night my friend said something really funny and i smiled really wide. after that i tasted blood from my lower left extraction site. i put a damp gauze pad over it for about 3 minutes and there was only the tiniest trace of blood. since then i havn't felt any pain or discomfort. does it sound like the begining of a dry socket or do you think i'm ok? thanks :)

  1. If you get dry socket you'll know. The pain is severe. It's like metal digging into your jaw. This does not sound like the begining of dry socket, but if you notice pain, call your oral surgeon immediately.

  2. Dry socket usually develops 3-5 days after extraction, and it will be extremely painful. I've had dry socket in my bottom holes from the wisdom teeth extraction, and it was horrible.

But as long as you're not in pain, then you should be fine. You're probably past the risk of getting dry socket at this time, so don't worry much about it.
