  1. Neniaf knows her stuff!

I will add this:  if the principal walked in and found them together, doing what ever it is they do...and they have to stop because another person walked in...too close.

  2. If a teacher is spending so much time with a student that s/he couldn't possibly do the same for all the other students in the class, it's too close.  If the student thinks of the teacher as a friend, parent, or someone with whom s/he has a romantic relationship, rather than as a teacher, it's too close.  If the teacher spends time outside of class with the student engaging in activities to which the other students are not welcome, it is too  close.  If the teacher is seeing a student alone off campus (at his/her home, a restaurant or bar, etc.), it is probably too close (although not always.  I once spent a semester tutoring a student at the gas student where he worked).  If either the teacher's or the student's significant other would object if s/he knew what was going on, it is too close.  If other students feel kept at a distance because of the closeness between the teacher and that one student, it is too close.  If the teacher is talking with the student about his/her personal life (marital problems, sexual encounters, past relationships), it is too close.  If any essential clothing is removed, it is too close.  If the teacher and student travel together and spend time alone in places where inappropriate things could happen (hotel rooms, etc.), it is probably too close.  If there are sexual or romantic innuendoes to the conversation between teacher and student, it is too close.
