How Colour Vision filled colours in Royal Ascot?
On the third day of the gorgeous Royal Ascot festival of this year, there happened at least five nerve-rending upsets. Reckless Abandon won the Norfolk Stakes, Princess Highway sealed the title of Ribblesdale Stakes, Energizer stood first in Tercentenary
Stakes and Fennell Bay grabbed top spot in King George V Stakes.
The most unusual and unexpected upset was perpetrated by Colour Vision who was quite an underdog for the Gold Cup (British Champions Series) (Group 1), but he brilliantly achieved first position by the narrow margin of ½ lengths.
It was amazing and stunning indeed. All the spectators, who were present at Ascot to enjoy the heated showdown, were astonished to watch the way the Saeed Bin Suroor trained grey gelding walked away with the grand victory.
But that incident brought great disappointment to the punters who had staked their money on the A. P. O'Brien trained bay horse, Fame And Glory, considering his outstanding track record.
There were a total of nine contenders for the ace title of Gold Cup. Colour Vision ran under the star rider, Frankie Dettori. In the beginning, he was quite unimpressive, but the veteran gelding suddenly picked some miraculous momentum and increased his
pace to take lead.
The very next moment, Mahmood Al Zarooni’s Opinion Poll was there to undo his lead. Then there started a neck-to-neck battle between these two runners.
Just a few steps away from the finish line, Colour Vision managed to surpass his rival and, thus, accomplished the biggest glory of his career.
Opinion Poll stood second while Saddler's Rock sealed third spot. The hot favourite runner finished 7th in the race. Thus, the whole result was surprising.
The Gold Cup was a value addition to the profile of Colour Vision, but unfortunately, he has not won a single race since then.
As a whole, the Godolphin owned gelding has 6 wins off 21 starts. Throughout his career, he has been at the top of his game.
Now, the son of Rainbow Quest out of Give Me Five is waiting for the next year’s Royal Ascot to make some more glaring marks. Good luck to him.
