  1. same reason Battery and Electric Motor manufacurers don't promote gasoline engines

  2. hybrid cars and totally electric cars decrease fuel consumpsion by a huge factor.  one vehicle that was experiemental was getting about 60 to 80 miles to the gallon, about the same as a 4 cylinder motorcycle though that car will never be on the market.

oil companies are all about raping the public by high prices though a chunk of the cost is in taxes.

there was a canadian in the 1980's i think it was, who created a fantastic carburator that the oil companies bought up to keep off the market.

also, if you buy a canadian car and drive over the boarder, the customs people will take your carburator as it is more efficient that the US model and we can't have you saving money on fuel now can we.

fuel costs vary a lot due to taxing and such, but never think we do not have a huge supply of fuel on hand, this fuel shortage is a lie

  3. dugh if there where seen in a electric car it would hurt there rep,

  4. The real inflation is Global Warming. It is a good excuse to charge 3 prices for your fuel.

      Electric cars problems.

1 The batteries are very heavy.

2 the batteries will not supply power for 600 mile trip.

  5. oil lobbies are in the business of promoting oil so......

    lets try this....

there are 2 different materials for making windows

    1 glass

    2 Plexiglas

you are a sales person for glass and you get paid by how much glass you sell.  would you be interested in promoting Plexiglas if you were not getting any money for it?

  6. Same reason corn farmers aren't.

  7. slap yo self

    thanks fo d points

  8. Oil companies are not in the business of manufacturing cars, that is not their subject of expertise.  That is for the automobile companies to do.

However, the mindset of the major oil companies today is that they are in the energy business, not just the production of oil and sale of petroleum products.  Besides investing (and learning how to improve the current processes) in renewable energy (e.g., geothermal, wind power, biofuels, etc.), it is my understanding that Exxon Mobil and Chevron have invested in ventures/entities to economically develop and produce a battery suitable for electric cars (e.g., sufficient range in miles between charges).  So, the answer is that oil companies are trying to develop an electric car battery, but whether or not they can come up with a commercially feasible battery before anyone else does remains to be seen
