in the last few years Catholic celebratioins  are part of the past.

now most of the people goes to the beach or something and since bars are close on semana santa.

you will see people lining up the days before semana santa at the supermarkets buying beer for all semana santa.

according with the statistics semana santa is the week with more car accidents due to drunk drivers.

so even when some people still goes to church most of the people will take semana santa as a vacation to drink and party

Well, for those who do still appreciate the religious aspects of the holiday, there is a huge parade in San Jose that depicts the stages of the cross through which Jesus suffered before his death and there are numerous demonstrations of the crucifixion. The majority of San Jose is shut down from Holy thrus to Easter Sun. Banks do not process loans or anything above an ATM transaction.

Costa Rica is a very Catholic country and during March they celebrate Semana Santa (Holy Week). During that time Costa Ricans flock to the beaches for their vacation, buses don't run, shops are closed, ect. During this time a lot of tourists also go to see the festivities.
