How DO YOU CHANGE THE REAR SPROCKET ON A 20" BMX BICYCLE WITH A "FREE-WHEEL?

  1. you should either take it into a bike shop and get them to do it or you should go into the bike shop and ask to buy a tool that gets it off...i have one and they are really really usefull to have when you need them.


  2. You need a "freewheel remover", but you also need a bench vise to hold the tool.

    I hope you have a workbench with a bench vise.

    Put the freewheel remover in the vise, with the prongs pointed up. Remove the nuts from the wheel.

    The axle goes through the hole in the tool. Line up the prongs with the notches in the freewheel.

    Now turn the BMX wheel counterclockwise, pretend it's the steering wheel on a large truck and you're making a left turn.

    It could make a "bang" if the threads were seized. You might want to put some grease on the threads of the new freewheel, so it doesn't seize.

    Make sure you don't cross-thread the new freewheel.
