Question:

How Deep Should a Pool with a Rope Swing be?

I am wondering how certain variables, such as how far above the water the end of the rope is, how tall the person swinging is, and any others you can think of, affect how deep a pool needs to be for a rope swing to be safe. For example, I am thinking around eight feet would be a good depth, but I am wondering if the pool actually needs to be deeper? The pool in question does not have a diving board. Thank you for your replies.

  1. I'd say 13 feet. I was a lifeguard for a while and people can really do some crazy things trying to jump in all silly. I would be really really careful with this. Is your pool big and wide enough in case someone did something stupid? Only reason I'm asking is because if someone let go wrong or later or early and injured themselves, this is your property and you would be liable for the ENTIRE pile of medical bills if the rope swing is ruled to be unsafe. I'm sure you have thought of that but I had to put it out there (as a former guard lol). Anyway, good luck.
