We are in a money crunch now, but my 17th birthday is September 17th, next year(2009). It will be my golden birthday, but I want to ask her a year before so I can plan it. How can I ask my mom?

  1. Well, how about having an idea in mind of what you want, how much it's likely to cost and what you are going to do to earn the money to do it. A year should give you plenty of time to get everything squared away. Once you know all of this, then ask her and tell her your plan.

  2. Is there a way that you can get a part-time job during next summer or at weekends and after school?

In the next year you could save a lot of money and have a wonderful party when you turn 17!

The last birthday party I ever had was when I was 12 years old, my family didn't do parties other than for small children and I know my parents didn't have much money, so if you want to celebrate your special day, then try to earn as much of it as you can, yourself.

If you figure you need $200 to have a party (for paper plates, food, treats, cake & ice cream etc) then you only have to save $4 a week to have $200 a year from now!  That would be easy - you could probably save that much from your lunch money by then!

    Good Luck!

  3. Just wait til shes in like a really good mood, and then ask her as nicely as you can and just throw in stuff like 'I'll clean the dishes every night for a month', etc if it doesn't look like you're convincing her.

  4. I know how you feel.So this is what you do you think of something that your mom can pay for , something that you and your friends will have fun with.

  5. Just bring it up...Tell her you dont want one this year, but youd rather one next year...try to save up some money yourself too...tall her that youll chip in if you have to...most likely she will say you dont have to because most moms dont want their daughters to throw their own parties...and you can have fun partys for cheep!!! Trust me lol...go to a local chill spot like the beach...its fun...and free =]

  6. wow, i dont want to be mean, but the fact that you're thinking of that even though you're in a money crunch is a little selfish. You should be thinking about what you can do to help. Parties aren't a necessity, but having a roof over your head and food in your tummy are.

  7. i would just ask her keep it within reason but.

just think about where money is right now and think is it going to be possible to save for it and are you willing to go without somethings to help pay for this party that you are after and go in with that approach in that you are offering to go without this or that to help the family save for it.

    Good luck

  8. d**n your talking year from now..a lot can change

  9. Well I know this is not easy but if money is a crunch in your house than you need to keep this in mind with asking and planning for a 17th birthday party! So have ideas ready for your mom and plan on making most of the decorations by hand...have fun with it and be creative this will elongate all the anticipation!!! This will make your party so much more fun and meaningful...make sure you plan the date around a time when most of your real friends can celebrate along with you, just ask every one at least (minimum) 1 month-2 months to check their calender! Happy 17th in advance(big smile!)

  10. like this:

    "mom?"

    "yeah"

"for my 17th birthday i would like to do something different."

    "mhhmmm.. like?"

"like something special. but in order to make the changes possible i think skipping and or having a small birthday this year is in order"

"ok let me think about it"

    ok?ok.

  12. In Buddhism, your birthday is something you celebrate by presenting gifts to others to express your gratitude for your life and their part in it. Think about it.
