  1. The only material a speaker enclosure should be made of is MDF (medium density fiberboard) reason being all hardwood species have a resonate frequency in the audio spectrum and therefor e would add a undesired transmissive element to the overall sound.

Most manufactures relegate to laminate when choosing a finish.

  2. Like '42' said, particle board would be a good choice. But the type of wood is only one of the many ingredients to make a good sounding speaker. You would have to know the Free Air Resonance of the speaker, to design the right cabinet size and port for it. The port could be Circular or Rectangular. You could use a rigid cardboard tube, then you have to try different lengths of it. Judging the best tunning with music may not lead to good results. The best way is with electronic test equipment, but unless you already have them, you are better off buying a speaker system already made. I don't want to discourage you, but it takes more than just blowing to make a bottle. One last thing, is the speaker you have a good one?

  3. YOU DON'T

The wood is too light and airy. It will sound horrible.

If you just want a speaker box for outside or in the garage or on your lawn tractor or whatever just build a box and stick the speaker in. If you want any bit of good sound at all you need to use, as mentioned above,  MDF- Medium Density Fiberboard. Or particle board as it is commonly called. YOU need the real solid stuff.
