How Do I Connect PS3 to HDTV When DVI Does Not Work?

I just bought a used PS3 from someone on Craigslist and am trying to hook it up to my HDTV LCD but am having a hard time. There is no HDMI in or out on the TV and I tried hooking it up through the HDMI to DVI with an adapter but it wont work, the DVI plug looks different than the DVI connector on the TV. There is a plus like in the design on the female part on the TV and there is a minus part on the male connector!? It just says "Out Of Range". So I want the best possible picture and want to know if I should get a HDMI to VGA adapter or just use a HDMI with components and if I do how much will my 1080i view? 420? 720? Please HELP! The TV is a LCD 30-500, 1080i. It says it is a Dish Network TV. I have the manual but it is older and does not say anything about connecting game systems.

  1. Just use component cables.  If you have it for the PS2, just use it on the PS3.  The PS2 cables is the same as the PS3 cables.
