How Do I Convert .MOD and .MOI to .avi?

I have a Panasonic SDR-H18 HardDrive Camcorder, and have it hooked up to my computer correctly and want to edit my videos on Windows Movie Maker, the only problem is that the files are in .MOI and .MOD, I've done some research and .MOI is the audio for the .MOD video files, they come together. But my I really need to know how to do this, I've downloaded to different video converters and neither of them work! This should be much more simple but it isn't, help? PLEASE!
