  1. why would you need to do a background check on yourself?  It doesnt make sense to me..

  2. I'll say this much.  I have been in Law Enforcement for 16 years.  As Part of my Masters Thesis, I investigated online background reporting agencies.  I took 50 files of known offenders both state and federal and ran them through these agencies.  Some of these people were s*x offenders, violent criminals, and some had warrants.

Out of 50, I only got 2 hits from these agencies.

Why? You may ask.  These agencies search public databases.. The same thing you can do on your own.  Go to the courthouse in your county and city, and do a case search by your name;  Go to your DMV website and order an online driver's report (some states you have to do it in person).  Go to your states Department of Corrections website and do and inmate search.

Those are the resources they use.  It's a scam.  You're paying them to do the work for you -- you have the same access they do.

There are police and other LE officials that will agree when I say, that WE don't always have the updated information.  For those LE's reading this.  How many cases have you seen NICIC not have active warrants listed? Or other jurisdictions priors not availble through CJIS or NLETS?  It all has to do with the originate Agency. In order for us to see it, or for it be available to public records they have to enter and release it.

Your best bet, it pay the $10 or so and have your police department records division provide you with your background request.  That is the most accurate one you will receive.

  3. You dont know your backround well enough?

  4. It is virtually impossible to pursue a background check on line because the sender would open himself to a suit in violation of the privacy act.
