Google "Feng Shui debunked" before you put too much stock in this?  Penn & Teller on their show "Bullsh*t" hired 3 FS practitioners, and they all had completely differing recommendations, many of them that defied common sense.

I think your own gut is a more reliable method.  Or ask a few friends.

If the "extender" is the balcony, there's no problem. Just apply Feng Shui to the apartment, without the balcony, as it is outside.
