Question:

How Do I Find My Ethnicity?

Does anyone know of some good site to pinpoint ethnicity? I don't know my racial background and I'm curious. Do you know those sites where they scan a picture of you and match you with a celebrity? Is there one with matching ethnic backgrounds? I know it is common practice in forensic anthropology because computer programs can scan average sizes and shapes of bone structure, but is there one online that anyone knows of?

Anything else anyone can think of?

Thank you :)

  1. DNA is the best and of course relatives. Pictures can be decieving in determining someone's ethnicity.

Since you aren't related to your family biologically, the only way you would be able to know is your DNA. Ask your parents if you can look at your adoption papers, it might be on there and its worth a shot.

  2. the best way is to ask the relatives and where you came from that ishow you know. i mean you can be part german, english etc. that is nice to know someday when all are dead and gone and now you maybe can ask take care.

  3. Start out with checking the origins of your family name and your mother's maiden name.  That can be a good beginning point.  Also, ask your parents and grandparents.  Grandparents, especially, can be a good place to start finding out about your family history.

  4. I don't know of a site, but there are some programs where you can do a cheek swab and mail it in and get your DNA analyzed. My cousin did it, and they were able to trace his roots back like at least 200 years all across the globe. It was pretty cool.

Hope this helps some. Just try Google-ing it. Ask your Doctor.
