I have horrible asthma and when I'm in a place where someone has been smoking or is smoking my throat starts burning and I start wheezing. The problem is, my mom started smoking recently. Nobody that lives with me has smoked all my life and my mom used to be very strict about other people smoking near me. But now, she does herself. I tell her to stop smoking near me but she doesn't seem to care. She even allows her friends to smoke in our house. I know smoking is her personal choice, but how to I get her to stop doing it around me?

  1. That is very unfair what your mother is doing and very thoughtless. you must tell her how it effects you but do this without getting into a fight with her..see if she would be willing to smoke in just one room or even outside. In many countries smoking is banned anywhere indoors,so people have learnt to smoke outdoors even when they are at home they will go into the garden to smoke..try talking to her again about this problem or get your doctor to talk to her.

  2. cut all of her cigeretts in half whenever she buys them or see a doctor and ask for him to tell your mom to stop and if she doesnt then she could get arrested for child abuse

  3. Sounds like you just need to be blunt to get through to her. Tell her how bad it makes you feel and that if she cares about you and your health she should stop smoking around you. Also make it clear that you are not trying to make her quit, just want her to stop when you're around.

  4. That could be labeled as assault, anyways, its illegal for her to do that.  You could seek legal counseling, and if you are a minor, you can call child services.  Just ask them about laws concerning smoking around child with acute asthma.  So when your mother is around somking, tell her to stop or you'll call child services.

  5. Try to get the doctor to talk with her if she want listen to you. Your mom is beening very selfish
