Question:

How Do I Get Kribensis To Breed?

I have had a pair of Kribs in my 95 litre Juwel aquarium for 2 years. It was a community tank until 3 months ago and now i am left with the kirbs a plec and a red tailed shark.

I did not know about the breeding behavour of kribs until recently so I dont know if they have ever courted ie. the red belly and female chasing male.

1 day ago I placed 8 plants, 1 flower pot and 1 coconut cave to my tank which has fine gravel and 4 pieces of large driftwood.

The female has no red belly and I was wondering are the pair passed breeding because they live seperately in the tank and the male chases the female? So do you think they will breed?

How long do you think it will take for her to court and get a red belly?

Would it help getting a new female and adding her to see if the female becomes interested in the male?

  1. My guess is the change stressed the fish out and they lost their breeding colours. I would get the coconut cave out, it will scratch them. Try putting a ceramic flower pot and some slate in their cage. Mine love to spawn in that type of thing. The flower pot's opening should be in the middle of the tank, facing a wall. It is best not to check on the progress in the pot, as the disturbance will make them eat their young.
