I am entering a show on June 9th in the jumper division with my horse Dorothy. She needs to get a little more in shape, and I need to prepare her for "scary jumps". She has never showed before, and is not really "trained" in jumping, but knows how. Please Help! I need to know some ways to get her in shape and prepared for spooky jumps!

  1. uhmmm..............your 6 days too late!

  2. If you mean JULY 9th, then you should ride her everyday, in english. Ride for about an hour. Practice jumping every day as well. She'll be trained in no time. A boy in my 4-H club started jumping 2 weeks after he learned, and he did great at the show. It was also his first show. Goodluck!

If you seriously meant June 9th, sorry, but its June 15th. :]

  3. yes June 9th has come and gone but if u mean July 9th or June 19th then i think u should wait and go to another show later wen u and ur horse r really ready. u need more time than that so get a good trainer for the both of u and start learning.

  4. Today is June 15th, but if you mean July 19th then I would say to back out. If she isn't properly trained in jumping, then she could do something that could hurt you, her, or anyone else at the show. Also, her just doing the jumps won't get you a win. Judges look at the form of both of you, so "knowing how" isn't goign to get you anywhere. Find a trainer to teach both you and her how to jump properly, so when the next show comes around you both are at your best.

  5. Train, train, train!!

  6. trot a whole lot to build her stamina, it uses more energy than cantering

  7. aaaaaaaaaa don't ya think your a little late today is the 15th!

  8. as for June 19th i would deff NOT go!! if it was July 9th than you have a whole month to train her, hire someone to give you and her jumping lessons. as well as ride her 6 days a week, doing lots and lots and lots of pattern work, try to get her to stretch her back (it will feel better for her to jump if she isn't tight) as for introducing her to "scary jumps" in not sure what level you will be doing.. im guessing a lower level like 2'3 or something? but the jumps wont be that scary. put odd objects into  the arena, like balls or tarps. put flowers under your jumps, jump oxers. Introduce her to as many new things as you can (including sounds and umbrellas!)

  9. How is that possible today is June 15th so it is hard to answer because i don't know how much time you have.......

  10. I assume you mean 19th? and thats a little scarey to hear you say never been trained in jumping but knows how. Doesnt matter that she knows how, she knows too little and could flip on top of you or hurt you badly. Dont enter and train up for next year is my opinion.

  11. That is coming up... to build muscle you can w/t/c up hills, do a lot a lot a lot of exersizing... do as much as you can... do figure eights and all kinds of things...
