Have a very very very clean version of your song available for direct airplay (nobody has time to go in and edit your song if you're a nobody...sorry). Create a great music myspace page. Go to a station website in big cities especially and find the station that fits your type of music. Just bc you live on the east coast doesn't mean you have to start there (I mean if you get famous you want everyone to hear your music just not people in New York). Anyway once you go to a big website you should be able to fill out an online music request where you just submit your music through the internet (bc people hate snail mail). You can also email your fave on air personality with some bullshit story about how much you love their show and ask them to visit your myspace page and tell you what they think. Some might think your great and wanna have you on the show. Another thing is to visit college campuses to get it played on the college radio station and just to promote your music. you can pay them, probably not an option for you, so you would first need to get a record label for that one. or you can do lots of gigs in local areas and get popular and then get the radio to start playing your songs that way from demand by people. or you could get good friends with a DJ.

The best way for you to make alot of money from music is to just make amazing music. if you do that then people labels and radio stations will come and find you.

if you just sound like the same old thing and there's no reason for them to come to you. you might be up against it. there's alot of supply of rap.

Radio stations, due to Style Formatting Requirements, and problems with payola, will not just play anyones music who sends it in. The  playlists are in pcs, which are constantly being monitered. Unfortunatly, the only way possible to get your music played, is to find a station who has a show that features local bands, get a record deal, or self publicize (youtube, myspace, ect). But you aren't just going to be able to send a CD in and get it played.
