Football season is coming really soon and i been working my *** off to get ready. Also im trying to get fit to at least lift about 120 or at the max 150 at the bench press. I been doing alot of push ups, sit ups, curls, and weight workouts to get stronger and more healthier. But I'm still unsure if thats enough. What im trying to get ready for is to be a defensive end, a linebacker, or even a safety, because i can really rush the ball and i can cover the pass to. What should i do to get ready for football and make myself fit to lift at least 120 pounds for the bench press?

  1. Start small and work your way up the lbs. scale. Start with something that you can lift (not something too light, have you) and do a few sets of that (3-4). Then, move up 5 lbs. and see how that feels. The key is to not go up too much too fast, because doing that can not only cause injury but can give you a false sense of your true strength. One thing to keep in mind is to have someone spot you if you start to take on bigger, newer weights.

Also, you can never run too much for football.

Keep hydrated (drink water, not gatorade).

Oh and be sure to stretch first.'

You wouldn't want any pulled muscles or nasty cramps, now would you?

  2. bench and football are two different things

id say forget the bench cuz in reality it wont make a difference in football. run. work ur core. do football exercises-backpedal, shuffle, sprint.

Football is about explosiveness and yes the bench make u stronger but it also make ur arms slower and poses more injuries.

Troy Polumalu hasn't lifted since college-hmmmm hes pretty good
