How Do I Get Through This!!?

Question

I have posted a few questions relating to dying my hair, this is my last one! I am dying my hair tonight with permanent colour. I HATE THE SMELL OF THE AMMONIA! It knocks me sick but my mum likes it. Last time I covered my face with the towel but I always get the dye everywhere because I can't see what I am doing properly. Would turning the extractor fan on and opening the window help? What else could I do to make the smell as faint as possible?

Its ammonia sweets its not really gonna go away as long as the dye is open and your applying it. Im the same way the ammonia gives me a real bad headake but if your dyeing your hair its something to get used to the window and extractor will help a bit but the smell will still be there a bit and if you got a strong nose like mine then it wont be just the bottle it will be your hair too. so i guess just tuff it out like i do and maybe some foaming drinks or Pepito might help calm your stomach so you wont get to sick. Like with me i take massive ibuprofen well anyway good luck hope it will go well.

How about you purchase a hair dye that doesn't contain ammonia? Not only does it not smell horrible, but it's much better for your hair. Ammonia does a lot of damage.

Or maybe you can have your mom help you out. Have her apply the dye while you cover your nose with a damp towel.

Turning on the fan & opening the window will definitely help. The more air circulation you have in the room, the less ammonia smell there will be =]

you could light some incense candles to try and cover the smell a little bit. Or buy a nose plug (you can get them from sports shops or most swimming pools) and breathe through your mouth.

i agree the smell is awfull , just open windows & keep the extractor  fan on it will take the worst of the smell away!! you could always try rubbing a little vic vapour rub round your nose so u can only smell that!!

get a colour with little or no ammonium!

if you want to go darker, ... no problem!

Yeah, opening the window would help circulate air throughout the room, which will be much healthier for you. You could also try getting those doctor's mask things. You can buy a pack of twenty for cheap in any sort of drug store like CVS or Rite-aid. You could even try to find them at Walmart, or something.

If you're wearing the mask, you'll be able to see and not smell or breathe in the ammonia. :]

Try rubbing some vicks under your nose. The police use it when visiting corpses in the morgues. Never had to try it but if it keeps the smell of rooting flesh at bay it should work with ammonia!! Good luck!

put a peg on your nose. just dont breath with your nose ha if you dont like it.

and yes of coarse opening some windows and doors will help, although it may not make a huge difference.

there are plenty of hair preparations out there that don't use ammonia.... speak with a salon about where you could buy these - or perhaps they sell them at the salon.... you would also then get good advice on the best way to dye your hair and how to look after it, afterwards......

yes it does state that you do it in a well ventilated area try spray sprays in the room keep windows open try to breathe through your mouth good luck
