How Do I Install Patches For The Sims 2?

I Downloaded a patch from the Sims 2 site, but I'm not sure what they mean in there instructions: Save the file to disk and then run it to install the patch.

Please make sure you have your game CD's available during patch installation.

Can you tell me what to do or what you did??

Save it to whereever, say your desktop. The open it from there,by double clicking, and follow the instructions.
