  1. Fraschy posted the link I would have given you.

However, I would like to add to his/her post:

If you choose to get a second piggie, and I hope you do, please consider adopting a homeless piggie from a local shelter or rescue instead of buying one from a pet store. There are so many great piggies out there that desperately want nothing more than a loving home.

I would also suggest reading the part on quarantine in the link. Most piggies from rescues have already been quarantined for illness and/or parasites, but you wouldn't want to accidentally give your resident piggie something nasty.

Sows usually take to each other quite well, given proper introductions. She will really appreciate the new buddy!

    Good luck!

  2. They are going to fight, but thankfully they just have incisors to fight with, not much damage there. Put them into a cage together, watch the fights, and in a week or two they'll be buds.

  4. Okay, first, intros must be done on neutral territory.

Use this link. It tells you EXACTLY how to do introductions:

Scroll about halfway down. It also lists normal dominance behaviors, and also things to look out for, and when to separate them.

  5. You need two cages, and spend about 1 or 2 weeks taking them to meet each other on a neutral surface. Bathtubs are commonly used. They can get to know each other without having to defend their cages. Eventually, you will scrub their cage clean, and put them both in. They will chase each other around and fight, but it is normal in the beginning. read this http://cavyspirit.com/sociallife.htm

  6. You put them in the cage together until you hear a noise late at night.

  7. People say that you should introduce guinea pigs in a neutral territory- I tried that at first but I found that it didnt really make a difference where I introduced my girls.

I put my new guinea pig in with my other one. Ofcourse you can expect them to nip at each other but nothing major (in my experience). If you introduce them this way, keep an eye on them and if there is a bit of nipping, dont keep pulling your guinea pigs away from one another because this will just make it worse. Let them sort out their own problems and they should be living comfortably together within a few days. Only remove a guinea pig if blood is drawn or if their is a clear injury.

its cool that your thinking about getting a friend for your guinea pig-she will be much happier with a mate!

    Hope this helped!
