Question:

How Do I Know If I Have Comcast Digital Cable?

I have the Comcast Triple Play and the cable box hooked up to my HDTV. I have the most basic digital cable and I get no extra channels other then the ones I already had with basic cable. The picture does not like "DVD quality" like it is supposed to. The basic cable is connected to the box and the box is connected to the TV. I have On demand and stuff, but that's it. Thanks

  1. If your box can only connect with Composite (that's the single video cable + l/r audio), you may have Digital Cable, and probably do, since you've got a set top box.

You almost certainly do not have HD programming.  An HD cable box should be connected to your HDTV by at least Component (that's the 3 cables, Red/Green/Blue), or HDMI/DVI.

  2. You obviously have Comcast, and you're paying for the triple play thing...  First and foremost, call Comcast and ask specifically about the service you have and whether or not you have any HD channels.  Let them know what type of monitor you have and they may be able to help you.  If you're sure you have HD in your cable package, read on:

Perhaps what you're wondering about is whether or not you have the best picture possible..?  If that's the case, then the answer is -  to look at the connections from your cable box to your monitor - if you're only connected by a coax cable (s***w on type of connector) from your cable box, chances are you're only receiving regular NTSC.  Check to make sure you have a cable box with an HDMI connection.  That or a component connection. (HDMI is a flat looking connector and component has 3 individual connectors red, green and blue).
