How Do I Know If My Hermit Crab Is About To Molt?

How do I know if my hermit crab is about to molt? And, What do I need to do for him if he is? Like does he need to be in a seperate cage or how deep of sand. Thanks

  1. He will drink and eat a lot. He'll not move around as much and his eyes will look dark grey. If he lives alone, he should dig down into about six inch deep sand. Don't bother him while he's in there. If he lives with other crabs, move him to another tank with six inch sand or his tankmates might attack him while molting. Give him time, it may take up to a month for him to finish. When he comes up, give him some cuttlebone with honey drizzled on top. He may dig back down to eat his exoskeleton, or he may have already eaten it before he came up. He should harden in a few days and be perfectly healthy. :)
