How Do I Reset The Service Engine Soon Light In A 1998 Ford Windstar??

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar and I want to know how to reset the service engine soon light... anyone that can help I'd greatly appreciate it! Thank you!

First you have to have a scan tool for OBD-II vehicles.  And not just a code reader; you need a tool that has the available function to clear the code.

But before you clear the code you have to use the scan tool to see what the problem is. You do this by plugging the scan tool into your diagnostic link which is located under the dash of your vehicle. Go through the step-by-step procedure as dictated by your tool.

Your not done yet! Now, you need to have the problem fixed.  If you don't fix the problem before you clear the code, the code will be "thrown" again and your Check Engine Light will illuminate again after a number of engine start cycles.

Now, after fixing the problem plug the scan tool back into the diagnostic link and follow the instructions on the scan tool to clear the code and the Check Engine Light will turn off.

Easy huh?  You can thank government for that one.

Although Autozone will check the code for you they are not allowed to clear the code.But maybe you can sweet-talk them.

is there a autozone near by they will do so for free. but it comes back on theres a problem somewhere and the code they get back will help with finding problem
