  2. Are you talking navigation compass or draw a circle compass?

    I must assume you're talking about a navigation compass, but then there are a variety of styles of those as well.

    The navigation compass works best with a map, and the easiest way to use it with a map is to merely use the compass to orient the map with magnetic north.

    Once you have found magnetic north (which is a few degrees off of true north depending on your location) you can then use the compass to get bearings (how many degrees off of magnetic north your destination is) or triangulate your position using landmarks on the map (for instance, mountain A is X degrees, B is X degrees, and C is X degrees, you use the compass from those points and find where you are standing in relation.)

    There are so many ways to use a map and compass it's not even funny.
