I've been writing for a few years now and I'm starting to get some really creative ideas, but when I go to write I can't think of anything and when I force myself to write it doesn't 'feel' right, What I'm looking for is some advice and remedies for getting over writers block

and a side question is it better to take a long break (I've stopped writing or ever thinking of ideas for a few weeks now) or should get right back to writing?

  1. Jot down your ideas.  Fast and messy is fine. You don't want to lose them. I keep mine in a document named (drum roll, please) Ideas. Many are kind of stupid, but some are good. I never delete any, just rearrange them with the better ones earliest.

Next time you want to write, review your ideas. Pick one. Is it a scene of something larger, or a whole concepts with a beginning, a middle, and an end?

If it's complete, here's the two-step biggie: *Plan it in some detail*. Write a good synopsis, an outline, index cards, whatever works for you. Then write a draft. *Give yourself permission to write utter c**p.*

Really, it's okay. First drafts are for your eyes only. They can totally suck. Planning the story, and getting the story down, is always a valid first step. Quality isn't even a factor, so don't expect it from yourself.

  2. just keep writing.  whenever i get writiers block i just watch the world more closely and try to find anything that will inspire me

  3. Get back to writing, don’t give up!

I know how you feel, im having the same problem right now sadly. It might just be that your mind spaces off something. you should write your idea's on a notebook and then when you get to writing the book you’ll have help from the notebook. it helps me a bit at times :)

I took a long brake but it only made it longer for me to finish the book, that i hope someday i will finish it and publish it. (Not only did it make it longer to finish, but people that read it kept nagging on me and saying to get my butt on that chair and start writing or they would hurt me -_-* but it's those kinds of ppl you need at those moments i guess :)  though they could be a bit hurtful when you don’t listen to them >_> )

i hope i helped by just the tinniest amount :) good luck!

  4. Invest in Dorothea Brande´s book Becoming a Writer. Her exercises take you out of writer´s block and tap into the pschological side of writing which Victoria taps into too. Once you accept that the majority of your work comes from your subconscious, you write on a different plane.

Secondly, knowing the reasons for writer´s block helps you solve it. Ask yourself these questions: Am I tired and need to take a break? If so, take one. Am I forcing myself to write something when my subconscious is telling me the story needs to be said differently or that there is a problem in the story? Give yourself a few what if questions of how the story could go in a different direction or close your eyes and ask the characters directly what happens next or why the story has stopped. Am I allowing myself to just let go and relax so my subconscious can come through with the goods? If not, try a five minute meditation, a walk in nature or half an hour doing a mundane task without words. Allow yourself some space each day with no words--with music only if it´s instrumental--to allow your subconscious the space to come through and give you the energy to write

  5. read some other writers works to pickup how they express their characters and the relationships between them thats how i get rid of my writers block, also dont just read the same author pick random books from a library if the need be.

  6. This is what I do. Lay back and run your story through your head like a movie start to finish. Once its fresh in your mind either take a pen and paper or open a new word document and just pick up where you left off. Stop worrying about if it fits and just go....don't stop. I go until my gut tells me to stop. Then read over. Once you cut away a few bit here and there you will probably actually like what you have. Sometimes it just helps to empty your head though and once you have done this you can chuck it if you want and it tends to be  easier for me to start fresh at that point.

    Hope that helped a bit!

  7. There is no one best answer but I suggest that when you get writers block,  do not stop writing. Doesn't matter what you're putting down on the page, just keep the action going.  It's a mistake to believe that everything you write down must be good or of immediate use. Writing is about habit, so take time to go for a walk but I don't recommend stopping for weeks on end.
