Question:

How Do I keep the Stink down in my room?

I have 3 mice, 2 dwarf hamsters, a syrian hamster, and 2 birds. I have cage cleaner, but it doesn't help much. Should I get little litter boxes? Do they actually use them? Spot cleaning is very difficult because of my cages design and it's also hard to see. Please help!

  1. try using febreeze. That usually works

  2. you could spray the tanks with air freashener

  3. I would recommend keeping your critters in easy-clean homemade cages (google homemade cages for TONS of great and affordable ideas).

Also, make sure that you are washing your cages and changing ALL the bedding once a week in addition to daily spot cleaning.  My critters are littler trained and while this is nice, it does not cut down on odor.  I spot clean twice a day and full clean once a week and never have a problem.

    Good luck.

  4. Open the windows at least for ten minutes everyday.

  5. How often are you cleaning the cages?  Maybe you should try something besides the cleaner?

    I have like a dozen rats, 6 gerbils, and like a dozen hamsters (But many of those are the foster babies) and 2 finches, and my room doesn't stink at all. O.o;

Are you using critter trails?  Do you have boy mice?  Boy mice are supposed to be pretty stinky, and if your cages don't have good air flow, or are too small, the smell seems to build up fast.

  6. Stop eating baked beans for supper.

  7. I would recommend killing all your pets.

It's going to stink if you have them.

Also, showering and basic hygiene might help.

  8. 1) Use the right bedding for the roddents. I strongly suggest hemp, it has good absorbency and helps keep the ammonia down.

    2) Clean the cages ONCE A WEEK! That means trashing ALL the bedding, cleaning the cage with soap (mild dish detergent will do) and filling with new CLEAN bedding.

    3) Clean toys (especially running wheels) every 2 days (again dish detergent)

    4) Make sure the water bottles are not leaking (those can spoil the bedding fast)

Have a good ventilation of your room (keep the door open), but be careful about drafts!

DO NOT use any air scent products, these contain chemicals that can make your pets very sick (heck, they are not much better for us humans, but those are very tinny creatures we're talking about).

  9. thats alot of pets to have but if u look after them then its ok i gues get more airfreshner and clean them out more often and keep windows open to circulate air

  10. get rid of them...

You will start to notice the smell going away. I promise!

  11. why don't you try moving some of your pets to other parts of your house.

  12. hmmm maybe Lysol, or Oust. Some good air fresheners.

  13. Get a big air filter

  14. Please be careful about sleeping in the same room as birds...you can get sick from their f***s.

I suggest vacuuming everyday (the bird mess).  It is a lot of work.

For the smell use white vinagre in a small bowl to absorb scent.  Also baking powder will absorb odor.

    Good luck.

  15. get rid of some animals

  16. clean gages more often or keep your pets in another larger room.

  17. I've helped some of my neighbors with this, while all the animals are asleep unlock the case and introduce several large carnivorous snakes into the room.

http://www.reptilecity.com/ is a fantastic website for this.

The snakes will p**p too and you may not want to get rid of them yourself, when this happens get yourself a mongoose. MonGEESE are mean and **** about twice as much. This isn't much of a problem because anyone who complains will have to deal with a hungry mongoose.

Also potpourri is very cost effective and it will eliminate the smell in a few hours

  18. open a window.  lol

na there aint much you can do.   the soft serfaces in there will hold onto the stink.  get some ferbreeze

OOOH but this is one thing you can do.   get some red cedar chips in there cages.   it smells good.   (well if you like the smell of wood like i do lol) that helps alot.

  19. Clean they're cages often, wash them with a wet washcloth, plug in a febreze noticeable, and maybe put some nice smelling plants in your room.

  20. sorry but you have a problem! I am sorry also because i cannot help , but you have my deepest simpaty! I love animals!

  21. Keep your windows open.

  22. Tell your parents, you want your own room.

You can not soar with the eagles,

when you sleep in a zoo. <}:-})
