  1. Do you mean the makers name? or your horses name?

The best way;pay a quick visit to your saddler(they probably wont even charge) You can have it easily replaced with a plain plate (that way,you wont see the holes and it is ready for a new name.

  2. If your nameplate is screwed on into the leather, I'm afraid there is no way of taking it off without the holes still being there. If it's glued on (I'm guessing it's not, but I have seen it done) then you should be able to gently pry it off without damaging the leather.

  3. you just have to unscrew it slowly, carefully, and at the right angle.

there will be holes and a little tearing left behind, but its not a big deal.  especially since you can just put a new plate on, or if your selling the saddle, the new owners can just put one on.

  4. You could take it to a saddle shop and ask them to do it, or you could do it yourself.  It has been screwed on, then carefully unscrew it.  If it has been glued on, then carefully pry it off.  If there are holes from the screws or gunk from the glue, then just get a new nameplate.  You can get a plain nameplate or one that has writing on it.  If it is a western saddle, then there are silver plates that you can add to it.  I hope this helps!
