How Do Motorcycle Permits Work?

How do motorcycle permits work, and how does it work to get your actual license? I'm in Arizona if that helps.

You take the written test that show you have an UNDERSTAND of the rules of the road and how bikes should be ridden.  This gives you the permit.

Then with the PERMIT, you practice with a license motorcycle rider (or take a course).  Some states will issue a motorcycle license if you PASS the course. check with your DMV.

Then you take the road test.  If you pass, you get a license to ride a motorcycle - unsupervised.
