How Do Remove Static Sound From Video?

I have video from my camera that has sound. However, the sound is terrible because all you hear is a little sound and a lot of static. Is there a way to lessen the static sound?

Why not mute the audio from the video file and replace with narration or music?

For this, go thru a video editing app, e.g. windows movie maker, etc

unfortunately the on camera microphone is not that good.  you can try an audio editing program such as sony sound forge to reduce noise and raise audio levels, but that will only go so far.      you really need another camcorder or an external microphone if you want better audio.
