  1. We explain to parents that we cannot do everything, we cannot move heaven and earth, we explain that sometimes there are limits to what their children are capable of learning - and, most especially, that parents can't leave EVERYTHING to teachers to teach. There must be support and learning in the home, as well.

  2. It's not up to the teacher to force the child to learn.  The teacher is hired to teach, and they are limited to what the state says is proper curriculum for what they teach.  If the kid isn't focusing or isn't paying attention in class it isn't the teacher's fault.  The teacher has a classroom full of students not just ONE.  Her responsibility is to focus on her CLASS not just ONE.  If the parents want one on one teaching they need to home school.

  3. I am a parent of a sp. needs child and I think that the teacher is obligated to inform the parent if the child is falling behind and come up with some strategies to help.  I agree teaching needs to be reinforced at home.  According to FAPE (free appropriate public education) if a child needs a 1:1 aide the child should get it and it is the teachers job to see that the child's needs are met at the IEP.  If the team feels the child needs a smaller setting as in a self-contained classroom and the school doesn't have it, then by IDEA law the school is to create it.  Each child is entitled to be in the LRE (least restrictive environment)

  4. A little frustrated maybe......but at the end of the day each child has their own limits to what he or she is capable of learning. There should be support from both teacher & parents. This way if a learning problem is detected early on help can be sought..
