Question:

How Do We Get A Cockatiel Back Into It's Cage?

Our grandfather's bird got out of it's cage because our cats knocked the cage over and broke it. We have another cage but how are we supposed to put the bird into it? My older brother has been trying to get the brid back into it's cage but he just keeps getting bitten. Help?

  1. Does the bird have a favourite toy that could be used to lure it back in?  My cockatiel doesn't like going back to his cage sometimes, but if I hold his ladder close to him he'll step onto it and I can put him back in.

If all else fails, try to get him onto a flat surface like a table (put some seeds on there, for him to eat), then use a light-weight cloth to throw over him.  A small sheet would do.  This way you can get hold of him through the cloth, without hurting him or getting bitten.  He'll likely still struggle if he's not used to being handled, so you need to be gentle but firm.  Then put him through the door of the new cage using the sheet to stop him flying out.
