How Do You Clean Cement Off The Back Of Old 1960's Tiles?

Hi! I hope that SOMEONE CAN HELP ME, we are DESPERATE!!

My Husband has repaired the walls of our bathroom. But, we have a BIG PROBLEM now. He carefully removed all the old tiles so that they can be reused. (Yellow shiny glaze) But,

now he is having a VERY DIFFICULT TIME getting all the old cement OFF the back of the tiles (so that they can be reused again).

He has used a wire tool, a buffer, now he is using a chisel, by hand. He has already cut himself twice, I think I will be making a trip to our local ER soon....!!!

Does ANYONE have ANY helpfull suggestions, hints or tips, PLEASE.....???!!!

well if he cut himself using a chisel ...i hesitate to recommend a grinder and a diamond blade , but that is what i would use...
