Question:

How Do You Clean a Pocket Watch?

I have a Marine Corps pocket watch that I just found and it's dirty on the front outside and scratched on back outside.

The screen is nearly perfect and I can't see any scratches at all but it's not clean either.

I don't know what kind of metal it is but it looks to be either gold plated or its a gold/medal alloy. It could also just be something that looks but either way.

What should I use to clean each part of the watch?

  1. Pocket watches are expensive.  Take it to a specialty jewelery cleaner to clean it so that it does not get damaged by inexperience.

  2. Take it to a jeweler and have them clean it.  I did with my husbands and they did an amazing job!  Much better than I could have done and it wasn't very expensive.  They can check the works inside and make sure every is in good order.

  3. Go to a jewelry store they have cleaners or any watch repair
